Harlow G. Larsen, 79, of Pocatello, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2008, at a local hospital. Harlow was born on October 28, 1929, in Logan, Utah to Lorenzo and Emma Larsen. He was the 8th of 9 children. He was raised and attended grade school in Newton, and later attended Pocatello High School then North Cache High School in Utah. Harlow was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean War, serving in the Army Airborne. Upon being honorably discharged he returned to Newton, Utah where he met his life-long companion Sharon Buttars. They were married September 12, 1954 in Clarkston, Utah, and together they had 5 children; LaMar, Tressa Denise, Terry Lyn, Kimberly, and Jodi Lee. He was a machine operator and worked for Lamb Weston for 20 years, retiring in 1992. Harlow enjoyed doing woodworking. He built a cabin in Island Park in which he made the furniture and built a beautiful staircase. As a kid he enjoyed building flying model aircraft. He also enjoyed going to air shows. He loved spending time with his 5 children, 12 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his wife Sharon, of 54 years; 5 children, LaMar (Barbara) Larsen, Tressa Denise Ballard, Terry (Blaine) Newsom, Kimberly Larsen, all of Pocatello, and Jodi (Brad) Dunsworth of Meridian, Idaho; 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; sisters Velda Henniger, Ila Meyers, and LaRue Divine. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, and 1 granddaugher. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at the City Creek LDS Ward Chapel, 655 S. Grant, with Bishop Jonathan Higgins officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial will follow at the Newton Cemetery with Military Honors. Arrangements are under the care of Colonial Funeral Home.
