Haireld Lamar Christensen

January 31, 1926 — July 3, 2016

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Haireld LaMar Christensen peacefully passed away at the Idaho State Veteran's home in Pocatello, Idaho on Sunday July 3, 2016. LaMar was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, the second of three boys to Haireld Hans and Ethel James Christensen, on January 31, 1926. At age two, LaMar's family moved to Pocatello, where LaMar would live his entire life. LaMar graduated from Pocatello High School in June 1944, and was immediately thereafter called to report to the gunnery school in Coeur dAlene. LaMar honorably served as a Seaman First Class in the Pacific Theatre of World War II on the USS Renville. Upon returning home to Pocatello after the war, LaMar met his sweetheart, Marlene Joan Alvord. LaMar and Marlene were wed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. LaMar and Marlene's marriage was blessed with three children, Cary LaMar, Mari Jan, and Laurie Ann. LaMar attended Idaho State University, graduating with a BA. A worker of immense and varied talents, LaMar managed his father's truck stop for many years. LaMar and his brother Marvin would later manage their father's Christensen Truck Stop, located on South Fifth adjacent to Alvord's Cafe. LaMar then operated various service stations, and King's Food Host in Pocatello, which he owned with his wife. LaMar spent his later career as a draftsman and supervisor for over twenty years in the Pocatello City Parks Department before retirement. An avid sportsman, LaMar was his happiest hunting and fishing with friends and family. Above all else, LaMar loved salmon and steelhead fishing, and trout fishing on the Blackfoot River. LaMar and Marlene built a cabin at Bear Lake West, where their family enjoyed boating and waterskiing for almost thirty years. LaMar was preceded in death by his parents, his brother DeVon, and Cary's daughter Janiel. LaMar is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marlene, his children Cary (Dawn), Mari (Bruce), and Laurie, and his brother Marvin (Faye). LaMar is also survived by nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services in LaMar's memory will be held on Friday, July 8 , at 11:00 am at the Chubbuck 1st Ward building located at 4775 Hawthorne Rd. in Chubbuck. A viewing will be on Thursday, July 7 , from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Colonial Funeral Home located at 2005 South Fourth Ave. in Pocatello and one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial and Military Rites will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
