Gustav F. Winterfeld, 61, passed away on January 10, 2016. He was born on July 4, 1954 in Kaiserslautern, Germany, to Charles and Elizabeth Winterfeld. He was raised in Kingston, NY. He received his Bachelors degree at Cornell University, Masters degree at the University of Wyoming, and earned his Ph. D at the University of Wyoming. Gus was a founder, owner, and the director of Erathem-Vanir Geological, an independent geologic and paleontology consulting firm. He also had a strong passion for teaching and spent nine years as a Science (Geology/Biology) Professor at Idaho State University. In 2013, Gus founded Pub New Harmony with Sachiko, his wife. Through Sachiko, Gus was exposed to the rich Japanese tradition and culture which he instantly fell in love, and to share this love, he helped to create the Japanese Club at ISU. A kind and caring spirit enveloped Gus. The radiance of his affection and warmth filled wherever he went, and it was especially apparent inside Pub New Harmony where he loved to sing Joe Cockers "You Are So Beautiful" and Van Morrisons "Brown Eyed Girl" on Karaoke Night. He is survived by his wife, Sachiko; his father, Charles; his sister, Traudi; and his step-son, Hiroshi. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth. A Celebration of Life for Gus will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Pub New Harmony located at 134 Warren Ave, Pocatello, ID 83201.
