Gregory Horton

November 4, 1949 — December 28, 2018

Gregory (Greg) J. Horton passed away after a brief illness with cancer on Friday, December 28, 2018. Greg was a scholar, an officer, and a gentleman for his entire life, even as a little boy.

He was born in Richmond, VA on November 4, 1949 and grew up as an Army brat. He got his college degree at ISU, where he participated in ROTC and Intercollegiate Knights. He joined the Army at graduation, and married his lovely wife, Kim O., in Honolulu, HI on June 1, 1973. They had one beautiful daughter, Freda Horton, now of San Diego, CA.

After leaving the military, he worked for the state of Idaho, then finished his career as an Emergency Preparedness writer and coordinator at the INEL, a DOE nuclear test site in Idaho.

The great loves of his life were his family, his dogs, and reading. He wanted to figure a way to be buried at Rainbow Bridge, but understood that instead, it was the first place he would go. According to Freda, he had the best Dad jokes ever, and his sister says he was the best big brother you could hope for.

He is survived by his wife Kim O. Horton; daughter Freda Horton (Nikki Ricci); granddaughter London Woodruff; great-granddaughter Aria Barter, two sisters, Lisa Horton and Renee Lishenko (Victor); a niece Kara Chenoweth (Tim); a nephew Jamen Smith (Christy); four great-nephews, along with many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Evelyn Rae Whitlow Horton; and father Jewell E. Horton.

According to his wishes, Greg will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road, Chubbuck, ID on Friday, January 4, at 2:00 pm.

Memories and condolences may be shared with the family under the "Tribute Wall" tab above.
