Gordon Harmon passed away on January 4, 2024 suddenly at the age of 86. He was born on July 22, 1937 in Idaho Falls. He was raised in Idaho Falls and a few years after marriage moved to Pocatello, Idaho. He married the love of his life, Jacquelyn Fielding in the Idaho Falls temple on June 20, 1958. They went on to have four children.
Gordon was very intelligent and attended some college aspiring to be a chemical engineer and major in chemistry but due to the financial hardship was not able to continue. Through his life, he had many occupations. He worked at a mortuary, was a sales representative, had his own welding company but for a majority of his life, he went back to what the loved and knew best which was farming. He had grown up with a father who farmed and worked construction. He began farming in the 1970’s with his father-in-law and continued to farm with his sons, Doug and Brian, until 2018 when he retired. He sure missed the farming life even after he retired.
At a young age, he was mischievous in every way, could talk his way out of a speeding ticket and had a love of cars. He was a member in the Pocatello Lions Club into the 1980’s. He later became a member of the Classic Car Club and later Reflection Car Club. He owned a few classic cars over the years and wanted to share his love with his grandchildren by taking or having them drive it with him.
He was a great father and incredible grandfather. He enjoyed going to sporting events to watch us all play and kept in contact with friends and family especially when he retired.
Gordon was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lucile and Wendell Harmon, brother, DeVere Harmon, two sisters, JoAnn Turner and Fannie Christensen and foster son, Joseph Wilson. He is survived by Jacquelyn Harmon, Doug (Kerry) Harmon, Carol (Michael) Hepworth, Brian (Lisa) Harmon and Nickole (Lou) Montoya. He left 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at the Wilks Funeral Home (Chubbuck Road, Pocatello, ID) on Wednesday, January 10th from 6:00-8:00 pm. An additional viewing will be held, prior to the funeral, on Thursday, January 11th at the Pocatello Idaho Tyhee Ward building on 333 South Treaty Hwy (US 91) from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. The funeral will begin at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, as a family, we would appreciate any donation to help pay for the financial burden of the funeral left for the widow. For more information, please contact one of Gordon’s children.
