Gordon C Wellard

Gordon C Wellard, 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2020 in Pocatello, Idaho.

Gordon was born and raised in the Pocatello area specifically in the City of Alameda.

He attended Roosevelt Elementary and Pocatello High School. Gordon was active in playing basketball and softball with his friends on his ward team and city softball leagues. At the age of seventeen, with the help of his older sister Maxine, they convinced their father to sign a consent form so he could join the Navy. He was assigned to the USS Philippine Sea aircraft carrier as an Aviation Ordinance man 3rd class from 1951 to 1954. His ship actively participated in the Korean War Conflict.

After his discharge from the Navy he returned to Pocatello and married Helen Johnson November 1954. He also continued to work for his father in the family business honing his skills as a cement mason and contractor. Gordon also served as a volunteer fireman for the City of Alameda. He loved being a fireman and often regretted not pursuing it as his occupation. For the rest of his working career Gordon was self-employed as a cement mason and owner of Gordon Wellard Concrete and Construction. In 1967, he divorced and later married DiAnne Galloway Gardner. They divorced, and he married Lois Adams. They divorced and he married Mary Armstrong. They divorced, but stayed together until her death.

Gordon's hobbies included getting married and divorced, bowling, softball, golf, hunting, and fishing. He loved the outdoors and the friendships he gained in those activities.

He was known for his hard work, hot temper, colorful language, and being a good guy.

Gordon is father of seven children, Frank Kevin, Shellie Lynn, Signe Ellen, Gordon Scott, Lisa Lee, Stephanie Dianne, and Amber Chantel.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Olive, his brothers and sisters, Bernice, Jay, Maxine, Helen, and Darrell, and two grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
