Gloria Powell

August 17, 1939 — January 22, 2025

Pocatello

Gloria Karel Virginia (Tubbs) Powell of Pocatello, ID passed away peacefully on the morning of January 22, 2025, following a year-long illness.

Gloria was born on August 17, 1939, in Richmond, VA to Marvin Parks Tubbs and Mary Kathleen (Payne) Tubbs. She lived in Elmont, VA until the age of 10 when the family moved to Pocatello to be near her paternal grandparents and family members. In Elmont, she attended school in a one-room schoolhouse. Later, in Pocatello, she attended Alameda Junior High, Pocatello High School and Hubbard High School (Hubbard, Texas) where she was a cheerleader and was voted “most well liked” at the school.

Gloria was raised a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and developed lifelong, loving friendships and, through her faith, a love of scripture. She proudly served in many positions including as a member of the choir, as a visiting minister, as Relief Society President and most recently as a volunteer in many capacities in the Pocatello, Idaho Temple. She was also honored to be a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

During her youth, Gloria worked as a root beer stand carhop, cashier and usherette for a movie theatre. She later worked at the Union Pacific Railroad Credit Union and retired as a Sheriff’s Deputy with Bannock County.

She enjoyed visiting people and always made friends easily. Gloria truly loved living in Pocatello and took pride in knowing so much about the history of the town and its residents. She was warm, funny and loving, and always generous with her time. Gloria was thankful for her many blessings, membership in her church, to be a citizen of this country, and for her entire family. She will be deeply missed.

Gloria was married to Jimmie Powell for 22 years and they had 4 children, Robin, James (deceased), Nathan, and Trevis (deceased).

Gloria is survived by her children, Robin (Dave) Barrett, Nathan (Tricia Daigle) Powell and by daughter-in-law Kim (Trevis) Powell. She is survived by grandchildren, Michael (Sydney Montgomery) Fuhrman, Jay (Emory) Fuhrman, Tasha (BJ) Elkington, Josh (Marissa) Powell, Nic Powell, Christopher (Victoria) Powell and Hunter Powell. She is survived by her great granddaughters, Sophia and Poppy Powell, Leisha and Baylee Elkington, Sloane Fuhrman and Myla Powell. She is also survived by her older sister, Marian Tubbs Connor, by cousins Bonnie Derricott and Doug Derricott, Mike and Jeanne Wheelock, and Alexis and Joe Myler, and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Nathan Grant Tubbs and by her sons, James and Trevis.

Gloria’s family would like to thank her dear friends and relatives, the caregivers from Enhabit Hospice and Brookdale Chubbuck for the outpouring of love and kindness shown to her these past months.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at the LDS Stake House, 225 Oakwood Drive, Pocatello, ID with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m., and followed by services at noon. The burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5th Ave., Pocatello, ID.
