Glenn Latimore

Glenn Ellwood Latimore, 77, of Pocatello, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at the Idaho State Veterans Home. Glenn was born March 23, 1932 the second of two children of Ralph Houdersheldt and Mildred Ferne Bartlett Houdersheldt. Glenn was also raised with an older step-brother and a younger half-brother. Glenn's father, Ralph passed away and Ferne later married John R. Latimore who adopted Glenn and raised him as his own. Glenn played the coronet in the band in Rupert as a young man. He also excelled in athletics, especially track and football. The family moved to Pocatello in 1948 where Glenn continued school at Pocatello High School. At PHS he continued in track, throwing the discus and shot put, as well as punishing his opponents on the football field. After he graduated from PHS he attended Grimm's business College where he studied accounting and met his future bride, Flora Steed. Glenn enlisted in the US Army on February 28, 1953 and he and Flora were married on July 11, 1953 in Pacific Grove, California. He was shipped off to Okinawa where he served during the Korean Conflict. Glenn was honorably discharged in 1955 and returned to the States to later join the Idaho National Guard. After the war Glenn worked primarily as an accountant and on the Railroad as well. He started as an accountant for Flaherty's Manufacturing and later was employed by the UPRR as a clerk. After retirement he also took a job as a bus driver for the school district and worked for an additional 8 years until his health forced him to stop. As a father he was always present for sporting, drill team or other events for his three children; Mark, Robin, and Stephanie, and that loving nature continued on with his grandchildren. Glenn loved the out doors especially hunting and fishing. He actively served in two bishoprics and as a scout master and a merit badge counselor in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his loving wife, Flora, Pocatello, son Mark (Cindy) Latimore, Pocatello, 2 daughters, Robin (Steve) Anderson, Blackfoot, ID, Stephanie (Kevin) Panter, Idaho Falls, ID, a brother Lee Latimore. Tombstone, AZ, 12 grandchildren; Aubrie, Telsha, Brooks, Corban, Kelsie, Andrea, Grahm, Kristin, Rhett, Tia, Ariel, Chelsie, 4 great grandchildren; Devrie, Cienna, Kacen, and Brooklynn. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the LDS 3rd Ward, corner of Cedar and Poole, with Bishop Murdock officiating. Viewing will be held from 6:00-7:30 PM Monday evening at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave. and one hour prior to the services at the church. Military honors will follow at Restlawn Cemetery.
