Glenn James Van Sickle Sr., 86, went home peacefully to Jesus, April 4, 2011, surrounded by the love of his family.
Glenn was born April 12, 1924, in Marysville, Idaho, to Bill and Sarah Van Sickle. As a young child, his family moved to Ashton, Idaho. He attended Ashton High School where he enjoyed boxing and playing football. Shortly after graduation he joined the Navy where he served as a Sea Bee from November 24, 1942, until Dec 7th 1945. While on leave in San Jose he met the love of his life and soul mate, Mickey Huckabay. Three months later, on August 11th 1945, they married in Eureka, California. After his discharge they moved to Idaho where they raised 5 children and 2 of his grandchildren, Connie and Kenneth.
Glenn worked at the gun plant, railroad, INEL and then the Caribou National Forest, where he started in the warehouse and worked his way up to purchasing agent. He retired after 30 years of service.
Glenn loved watching his children and grandchildren playing sports. He loved his family, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and playing horseshoes. He loved making the coffee every Sunday for his church family. He attended the Cornerstone Chapel and he was baptized August 2nd 1998.
He is survived by his wife Mickey Van Sickle, sons Leo (Mary) of American Falls and Jim (Ruby) of Pocatello, daughters Glenda (Garth) Herbst of Blackfoot, Florence (Tim) Burwell of Pocatello, Betty (Mike) Beck of Chubbuck and Sister Darlene Taylor of Fort Hall. In all, he had 20 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers Lloyd, Bob and Kenneth, 2 sisters Edna McAruther and LaVon Hansen, grandson Daniel Beck and 2 great grandsons Jessie Red Elk and Trey Van Sickle.
