Glenn Edward Ames

Glenn Ames, 71, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on June 20, 2015.

Glenn was born January 10, 1944 to Clyde Christensen Ames and Delpha May Talbot in Pocatello, Idaho He excelled at sports from an early age, competing in baseball, basketball, and football at Pocatello High School.

After high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Glenn married Judith Nelson and they were parents to one lovely daughter, ReBecca Lynn Sala (Ron). Later, Glenn married Marilyn Godfrey, becoming a second father to her children.

An avid worker from an early age, Glenn eventually settled into work with the Union Pacific Railroad, retiring as a conductor after a lengthy career. He diligently served as a UTU representative. He told endless stories of his adventures on the train, much to the delight of his family. Glenn also attended Idaho State University, earning his Bachelor of Science degree. At the time of his illness, Glenn was only 3 credits shy of his Masters of Science degree.

Glenn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a service missionary in the Fort Hall Branch for several years.

He loved the outdoors, but his passion was elk hunting. He will be greatly missed by his many hunting buddies. He had a great interest in antique cars and religious studies.

A beloved father and grandfather, Glenn will be greatly missed by his family.

Glenn is preceded in death by his grandparents Daniel Carter Ames and Carolyn Maria Christensen; Edward Reuben Talbot and Minnie Lavenia Waite; his parents; two brothers and one sister.

He is survived by wife Marilyn, three sisters JeAnne Norman (David), JoAnne Green (Cumer), Sally Kugler (Don), and one brother Donald Ames (Karen). Also, children ReBecca Sala (Ron), Kirsten Nothstine (Darren), Lori Cottle, DiDi Orr (Aaron), and MiMi Smith (Jeff), and ten grandchildren, Niklas, Jane, Elizabeth, William, Henry, Saya, Shun, Alyssa, Claire, and Hank.

Funeral services for Glenn will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Pocatello 7th Ward LDS Chapel, 12146 W. Tyhee Road, with Bishop Wade Egan conducting. There will be a viewing one hour prior to services at the church. His interment will follow the services at Mountain View Cemetery with Military Rites provided by Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard.
