Dr. Glenn H. Beck passed away October 30th at Kingswood Senior Living in Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 97. Glenn was born inChester,Utahin 1915, was raised on a farm inAberdeen,Idahoand graduated from theUniversityofIdahoin 1936. He finished his master's degree in dairy production at K-State in 1938, after which he joined the faculty as an instructor in Dairy Husbandry. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, training in North Carolina and serving in Japan and the Philippines. After the war, he completed his doctorate in animal physiology and nutrition fromCornellUniversityin 1950. Glenn became a full professor at K-State, moved to theUniversityofMarylandto become Head of Dairy Sciences (1953-1956), and then returned to K-State to become Director of the Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station. In 1960, he was appointed KSU Dean of Agriculture. That job evolved into the position of Vice-President. In 1975 Glenn began working for the United State Agency for International Development (AID) and the Rockefeller Foundation. His greatest goal was to help Third World Countries find solutions for their malnutrition issues. He helped develop a worldwide agricultural research network and coordinated planning and development efforts to improve livestock and high-protein field crops. He served as Provost for Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine atAhmaduBelloUniversityinZaria,Nigeriaand helped establishAndhraPradeshAgriculturalUniversityinIndia. He retired in 1985. Glenn was preceded in death by his wife Genevieve who died in 1973 and his second wife Dorothy who died in 2009. Survivors include his two daughters and their husbands, Ferol and Les Gerig and Suzy and Eddie Dissinger; grandchildren Geoff Werth, Stacey Jones, Michele Kavanaugh, Chrissy Reed, Scott Potter and Courtney Maxwell along with their spouses and fourteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his step-daughter Nancy Mallory, four step-grandchildren and their children, as well as many nieces and nephews. Glenn will be buried inAmerican Falls, Idaho later in 2013.
