Geraldene "Geri" Berg

September 3, 1952 — February 17, 2018

Geraldene Perkins Matkin Berg "Geri", 65, passed away on February 17, 2018. She was born in Preston, Idaho to LaVar & Walene Matkin, on Sept 30, 1952. As her fathers job changed, they moved many times. Geri spent most of her childhood at a different school each year. She lived in Preston, ID, Cleveland, ID, Thatcher, ID, Logan, UT, Salt Lake City, UT, Caldwell, ID and Wendell, ID. She graduated from Wendell High School in 1970. She then attended Ricks College in Rexburg, ID until 1972 where she met her future husband, Gary. Geri married Gary L Berg in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 25, 1972. After getting married, they lived in Idaho Falls until 1976, and then moved to Pocatello where they lived happily together and raised three children, Nick, Lucas & Jenni. She spent the rest of her life in Pocatello. Gary and Geri established (and currently own & operate) Garys Sewing Center in Pocatello and Idaho Falls. For over 40 years, she loved to teach sewing and help clients with their sewing machines. Geri was a devoted member of the LDS Church. In her years in the church, she held many callings: Primary President, Young Womens President and recently as the Relief Society President. It was a calling she loved - to serve and help all the women in her ward. She was an avid reader going from book to book and was always studying her scriptures. She also loved to sew, crochet, garden, ski and travel. She was a big sports fan and she loved to watch and attend any game, especially if it was watching her kids or grandchildren play. Most importantly, service was very important to her. She was always doing for others. She served genuinely, with a big smile and a kind heart. Geri loved and lived by this quote: "Be Kind to Everyone, Everyday." Geri is survived by her husband, Gary L Berg, Pocatello, ID; sons, Nick (Amanda) Berg, Shelley, ID, Lucas (Dodie) Berg, Pocatello, ID; daughter, Jenni Berg, Pocatello, ID; brothers, Kurt Matkin, Buhl, ID, Conrad (Terry) Matkin, Eagle, ID; and 8 grandchildren.
