Gerald Nord Pearson

Gerald Nord "Bumps" Pearson, 88, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the Gables of Pocatello from natural causes. Gerald was born in Pocatello, ID on August 22, 1927. He attended Emerson, Jefferson, Irving Junior High and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1945. He played football and was named All State in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946. He attended and graduated from Idaho State College. He lived in Pocatello on N. 15 th for 15 years before moving south of town on Portneuf Rd. where he raised 6 children. Gerald married Ruth L. Denkers on July 6, 1948 in the Idaho Falls Temple. Gerald worked for Stacy Smiths Army Surplus store. He ran his business, The Family Shoe Store, on Main and Clark, for many years. After selling the business, he went to work as a Bannock County Assessor. Gerald joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints following high school and has been an active member ever since. He has served in many callings and served 3 missions including the Pocatello Mission office, Idaho Falls Temple worker, and a humanitarian mission in a local ward. Gerald enjoyed fishing with his dad and brother. He was an avid skier and loved skiing with his children and grandchildren. After he quit skiing at age 83, he enjoyed bowling. The family would like to thank all those who were so kind in caring for dad while he fought cancer. We really appreciate all the love and support. Gerald is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth L. Denkers Pearson, Pocatello, ID; Children, Susan (Eric) Mennear, Pocatello, ID, Lewis (Sydney) Pearson, Logan, UT, Debra (Doyle) Ray, Inkom, ID, Nancy (Kenneth) Kiesling, Pocatello, ID, Nord (Shawna) Pearson, Pocatello, ID, Timothy (Joyce) Pearson, Pocatello, ID; siblings, Vessie (Marilyn) Pearson Pocatello, ID, Linda Pearson, Soda Springs, ID, Judy Burk, Pocatello, ID; 23 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louise and Henry T. Henderson and Vessie and Marjorie Pearson; and son-in-law, Kenneth Kiesling. Friends will be received on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Avenue, Pocatello, Idaho 83201, 208-233-1500. Services will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 12 pm at the LDS Gibson Jack Ward Chapel, 8200 W. Portneuf Rd. Pocatello, ID 83204 with a viewing from 10:30-12 noon prior. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5 th Ave. Pocatello, ID 83204.
