Gerald "Jerry" Lee Burkey

Gerald "Jerry" Lee Burkey, loving husband, father, and brother, passed away Tuesday March 16, 2021 at a care facility in Burley, ID. Jerry was born in Pocatello, ID on November 12, 1945 to parents Harry and Maggie (Mudloff) Burkey. He was welcomed to the family by his twin sisters Shirley and Sharon. Jerry attended elementary and Jr High in Pocatello and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1963. He also chose to join the Idaho National Guard after high school serving his country with pride. Jerry was hired at Simplot for turn-around, which turned into a lifelong career. He spent 37 years there. Jerry married Tamara (Tammy) Johnson on May 25, 1991. They had two beautiful daughters Katie Lee Burkey and Lisa Patricia (Burkey) Chandler. They were then sealed as a family in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 27,2002. On March 6th, 2000 Jerry was in an industrial accident at work that left him with many mental and physical disabilities. He continued to live with his family for many years before needing full time care and entered a long-term care facility. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Sharon; in-laws, Patricia and Lyle Johnson; and many other dear family members. He is survived by his wife, Tammy; daughters, Katie Lee Burkey and Lisa Patricia (Sterling) Chandler; and sister, Shirley Slade. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 11 am at the LDS church, 550 W. Cedar St. Pocatello with a viewing from 9:30-11 am prior to the services. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5th Ave. Pocatello, ID.
