George Oscar Baugh Jr., 80, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at a local care center. George was born to George and Ethel Baugh on December 29, 1936 in Denver, Colorado. The oldest of ten children he was a role model for all his younger siblings. George met Joellen Knowles in 1958 and they were married the same year. From this union came two children; their son Danny Howard Baugh and daughter Renee Lynn Baugh. George and Joellen later divorced. In 1996, he married Carolyn White later they also divorced. George enlisted in the U.S. Naval Air Reserve in February 1955. He attended the Navy Photo School in Oakland, California; after training he served aboard the U.S.S. Kearsarge. After serving for eight years he was given an Honorable Discharge in 1962. When Georges son Danny was young they were both a part of the Boy Scouts of America and the Y-Indian Guides where he held many high-ranking positions. He was very proud of what Danny had accomplished while active in Scouts and the Y-Indian Guides. George had plaques of these accomplishments hanging in his home. George worked as a Mechanical Designer starting in 1959 until he retired in 2000. He worked as a contractor so he did Mechanical Designs for a variety of companies in California and Colorado. Although he created many designs throughout his career the one that he was most proud of was the one that he did for NASA on a part for the space shuttle. After his retirement, he worked as a handy man and boarded dogs. In 2013, George moved to Pocatello, Idaho where he could be closer to his sister, Nancy, and her family. During this time, he formed a special bond with his niece, Annette, whom he came to rely on to help him as his health started to decline. George had many interests and hobbies including making sterling silver jewelry, archery, coin and stamp collecting, photography, and in his younger years, scuba diving. He loved to play the harmonica, especially Christmas Music. He was playing right up until a week before he passed away. He had a love for all animals and never missed a chance to help an animal in need. In his life he owned dogs, horses, geese, ducks, and chickens. George attended the Central Christian Church at the time of his passing. He looked so forward to attending church every week and made numerous friends. George is preceded in death by his father, George Oscar Baugh Sr.; mother, Ethel Grace Adams; and two brothers, Karl Eugene Baugh and William Edward Baugh. He is survived by his son, Danny (Belan) Baugh; his daughter, Renee Golden both from Riverbank, California; sister, Nancy (Ken) Thurm Pocatello, Idaho; brother, Rick (Mary) Adams Bend, Oregon; brother, James Adams Turlock, California; sister Lynda Grey Bakersfield, California; sister, Debbie Adams Turlock, California; sister, Kathy Florez Turlock, California; and brother, Paul Adams Turlock, California. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and even some great-great nieces and nephews whom all loved and respected their Uncle George. George will be remembered for his kindness to people and animals. His willingness to always help people; sometimes to a fault. His love of God, his family, friends and his Country. He believed that God put him on this earth to be of help to others. He will be missed and will forever be loved. Rest in Peace. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 11 am at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 2864 S. 5 th Ave. Pocatello, ID 83204.
