Loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle, George Walter Frost, 94, left us the morning of January 2, 2025.
George was born in Ogden, Utah on May 1, 1930 to George Frederick and Helen Alice (Walters) Frost. He often referred to himself as a "May Day baby". He was joined soon by his sister, Shannon, and later a brother, Roscoe. The family moved from Ogden, Utah to Soda Springs, Idaho where they were sheepherders. Later the family relocated to Pocatello, Idaho. After graduation from Pocatello High school in 1948 he married Ruth Zilk. They had 4 children, son Dee, twin daughters Christine and Kathleen and son David. They later divorced and Dad married Annie Darlene Lish Klouser. After she passed George called a family friend Geri Cox Barry to find homes for his 5 cats! This led to their marriage in 2012 where they proceeded to love and care for 9 cats and several dogs.
George was an entrepreneur, a hard worker and well respected in the Community and among his business associates, many of whom he remained friends with for many years. His first job was at Firestone at only 11 years old. After graduating from Pocatello High school he attended Idaho State University for two years before going to work for the Pocatello Airport doing maintenance then for the Pacific Fruit Express Railroad in the office and after that for Union Pacific Railroad as a Surveyor.
In 1954 he bought his first gas station, Frosts Conoco Service, which was on South Main St. in Pocatello. He also joined his father in starting the local Yellow Cab Company. In 1960 he was appointed Commission Agent for the Continental Oil Company in Pocatello where he handled the Distribution of Conoco products as well as Operating Supervisor of the Conoco stations in the Pocatello and Inkom areas. At that time he sold his station and left the Cab business. Opportunity arose for him to purchase the local Conoco Bulk plant which distributed fuel to Conoco stations, businesses and homes. He remained in the Distributorship until he retired. But "retirement" didn't stop him from working. Along with his partners, George built the 151 Building located on Center St in Pocatello and continued working as Maintenance Manager and remained with them until age 90.
During his working years George was involved in the local Elks, Masons and Shriners. He attended Bible Study with Pastor Steve Yadon where he accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized. He loved to travel with his family and friends and loved being outdoors hunting, hiking, skiing and fly fishing. He purchased property in Mackay, Idaho along the Big Lost River where he was president of the Mt. McCaleb Incorporation. He found plenty of time on the river for fly fishing and tying his own fishing "flies". He also enjoyed meeting his business friends and "the cowboys" for early morning coffee, going to breakfast with his family and playing cards with wife, Geri. Its a toss up who won the most games.
George was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister in law Roscoe and Susie Frost, Ruth Zilk Frost; Annie Klouser Frost, daughter Christine Frost-Kettler, brother in law Robert W. Swanson and recently his sister Shannon Swanson, who he lovingly referred to as his "Leetle Seester" and who passed one day before him, January 1.
George is survived by his loving wife, Geri, his sons Dee Frost and David (Corrine) Frost, his daughter, Kathleen (Gary) Mauch; Geri's son Rob Barry and her daughter Leslie (Warren) Thorley; ten grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews, two cats and a dog, Noodles, and many friends and neighbors.
The family would like to thank Enhabit Hospice for their care and help for George during his final months, especially Heather, Sabrina and Jenna. We can't thank them enough for their kindness and love.
