George A. Mickelsen, 82, passed away on July 23, 2018 in Pocatello, Idaho. He was born February 7, 1936 in Bancroft, Idaho to Leland and Grace Grant Mickelsen. He attended schools in Bancroft and graduated from North Gem High School. He served an honorable mission in Denmark from 1956 to 1958. When he returned, he married Karen Kristensen on April 24, 1959 in the Logan LDS temple. He attended Ricks College and Utah State where he graduated with a masters degree in Education. George taught at Jefferson Elementary and was later a Principal at Lincoln and Tyhee Elementary. George has always had a deep love for those around him and it was evident in the way he cared for his 5 children and the thousands of students he cherished. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in numerous callings. George loved spending time with his family; camping, singing, theater, and taking scenic rides. Survivors include his beloved wife, (Karen); his 5 children, Annetta Mickelsen, George Mickelsen (Daryl), Kirsten Johnsen (Alec), Solveig Querry (Clayton), Inger Phelon (Paul); 13 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren; one brother, Adrian Mickelsen; and three sisters, Erma Banks, DeLila Simons, and Ireta Mickelsen. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Charles, Bob and LaMonte; and a sister, Marva Mickelsen. A viewing will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 6-8 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 11 am at the LDS chapel, 655 S. Grant Ave. Pocatello, with a viewing for one hour prior. Interment will follow at the Chesterfield Cemetery.
