Geniel S Dahmer

May 16, 1937 — October 6, 2024

Chubbuck

Geniel (Stewart) Dahmer, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday October 6, 2024. Coincidentally, she was called home on the same day as her mother, 22 years later. She was born May 16, 1937, in Provo, Utah to Charles and Elsie Stewart.

Mom grew up in Provo, Utah alongside her four siblings Nadine, Deanne, Bonnie and Chuck. She attended school in Provo, Utah and graduated from Provo High School. Following high school, she attended Henegers Business College in Salt Lake City.

In 1957, she met Ernest Gary Dahmer on a blind date at Lagoon Amusement Park where they enjoyed a performance by Nat King Cole. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Pocatello Idaho, where they built a wonderful life together and over six years, they brought five beautiful children into the world, Mary Ann, Bryan, Sherry, Lori and Kathy. Throughout their marriage, they enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with close friends. They started a treasured Christmas Eve tradition, hosting a large family gathering where Santa made a special appearance. The tradition has continued as the family has grown with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Although Mom and Dad divorced, they remained friends and made a point to keep our family together.

She worked as a librarian at Edahow Elementary and in 1973 started her long-term career for the Union Pacific Railroad. She retired as Head Clerk in 1990 and was known for her warm personality, caring demeanor and in Grandpa’s words was “one hot commodity”.

Later in life, she married Glee Michaelson and spent several years in Saint George, UT and Island Park, Idaho. The cabin in Island Park was home to many memories spending time together playing cards, swimming at the Club House, golfing and many family barbeques.

Our mom has always been our rock and the family matriarch. Our family was at the heart of her every action, and we will always remember the selfless ways she cared of us. She always made sure we had home cooked meals and often handmade our clothes, calling us in from outside to take a quick measurement. Although we grew up with modest means, she made sure we never went without.

“Grandma Grape” meant the world to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was lovingly given her nickname by her great grandson Brayden, who struggled to say Grandma Great. We will always remember spending time with her and how she always found ways to make things special. She put a lot of love into holidays, especially Halloween. Each year she would drive around town making sure she had everyone’s favorite thing to eat. She would put together thoughtful goody bags for each grandchild and created the best memories for all of us. Without fail, we always looked forward to her valentine and birthday cards. She was the world’s greatest tickler and made the best oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.

She enjoyed a challenging game of Pinnacle and played weekly with great friends until the end. Although she refused to play the game of Bingo because she thought it was “stupid”, we recently got her to play a game after repeated attempts.

For the last fifteen years, she has struggled with various medical conditions. Throughout each difficulty she persevered and had a strong-willed, fighting spirit. We often joked that although she hated cats, she also had nine lives. She went to rest peacefully at Grace Assisted Living in Chubbuck, Idaho and we are genuinely appreciative for the love and care they’ve shown our mother the last couple years.

She will forever be remembered for her strong, tenacious spirit and the undying love she had for our family. In her later years, her curt sense of humor often made us laugh and made us more tolerant adults. After all, Grandma didn’t raise no “sissies”.

We are at peace knowing that she was greeted with a warm welcome by her parents, beloved son Bryan and grandson Jason. She is also preceded in death by her two sisters Nadine Taylor and Deanne Orme. She is survived by Bonnie and Terry (Stew) Shipman, Chuck and Kelly Stewart, her children Mary Ann Dykman, Sherry and Kelly Murdock, Lori and Leonard Walker, Kathy and Tom Hensley, 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. We will genuinely miss her and will always treasure the love she had for our family.
