"The only stranger Gene ever knew was a person he hadn't met"
Gene L. Cutler 69, passed away peacefully with his family at his side after a hard battle with cancer. He was born on January 2, 1948 in Pocatello, Idaho to William (Bill) and Leone Cutler and lived in the Tyhee area his entire life attending Tyhee, Hawthorne, and Highland High School. Gene was always bringing home friends to live at home with him and they became as close as brothers.
Gene met Phylis Pierce and they were married in June of 1968. To this union they had 2 boys, Bryan William and Shane Ryan Cutler. As a young boy Gene got the Rodeo bug and became quite a bull rider. He loved riding horses and visiting his Montana Grandparents, racing cars with his brothers, riding four wheelers and going camping with his family in a converted school bus. He enjoyed working in his garage and around his home. Gene was employed at the UPRR as a Carman until his retirement. He loved working with animals and trained a miniature donkey and a miniature bull to do rodeo tricks and enjoyed driving them around the country in his yellow Astro van.
Gene and Phylis enjoyed spending the winter months in Bouse, Arizona where he had many friends.
Gene is survived by his wife, Phylis; sons, Bryan (Gaby) and Shane; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; brothers, Archie (Millie), Larry (Amy), Brent (Ester) and sister, Sharalee (Bruce) Duncan; step-mother, Mable Cutler and her extended family, as well as many nieces and nephews that loved him deeply. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter.
