Gary G. Jones passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 26, 2010 at his home, with two of his daughters and his friend Donna Rounds by his side.
Gary was born in Shelley, Idaho on July 10, 1936, the oldest of six children of Archie and Ladore (Abter) Jones. His family moved to North Shoshone where he attended Gomes Country School, Shoshone Elementary and graduated in 1954 from Gooding High School where he was active in football, boxing, raising cattle in 4-H and FFA. Gary served in the U.S. Air Force from November 1956 " June 1960.
In 1959, Gary married Janet Thompson; together they had four daughters, Diana, Michelle, Julie, and Jennifer; and were later divorced. He then married Betty (Seegrist) Thompson, along with her three daughters, Marge, Chris, and Angie, they were also later divorced.
Gary worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a carman. He later started his own welding business, “Gary's Welding”. He also worked as a construction mechanic. He loved horses, guns, hunting, fishing, panning for gold, camping and watching most sports on television. He also enjoyed the precious time he was able to spend with his best friend of 16 years, Donna Pendry. They spent time together camping in the Tetons, and on the Washington and Oregon Coast.
Gary is survived by his daughters, Diana Stephenson, Filer, ID; Michelle Meyers, Pocatello, ID; Julie (Tony BFAM) Wells, Twin Falls, ID; Jennifer Jones Freestone, Pocatello, ID; his siblings, Gail Hancock, Gooding, ID; Janice (Ted) McMurdie, Gooding, ID; Myrna Jones, Richland, WA; nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and two Pomeranians, Bud and Ben.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Ladore Jones; brother, Newell Jones; sister, Faye Bellus; a great grandson, Payton Orchard; and friend of 16 years, Donna Pendry.
Gary's family wishes to extend their gratitude to Creekside Hospice for their loving care. He loved you Courtney, Toni, Myranda, Carmen, Royanna, and Adam! A heart-felt thank you to his dear friends at NORCO for all your friendship and support, with special thanks to Mitch! And to Wilks Funeral Home, thank you for the professional courtesy you have shown to our Dad, and ourselves.
