Gary Blake Munsee

d. December 16, 2014

On December 16, 2014, Gary Blake Munsee passed away peacefully at his home with his wife, Marion, by his side. He has earned his rest and is now in the presence of our Savior and all those loved ones who had passed before him. Gary was born November 3, 1933 to Leonard P. and Wanda Lavon Hancock Munsee in Boneta, Utah. As the eldest living son, he learned early how to work and work hard. He would go to work as a young boy for local farmers helping in the potato fields. One of those families saw to it that he was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved fishing and all sports, especially baseball where many told him he could have gone professional if he had the chance. His boyish dreams came to an end when his father was diagnosed with Mutiple Sclerosis. Gary quit school at the age of 15 and went to work at the railroad to care for his parents and six brothers and sisters. Finally when his mother and siblings were better able to care for themselves, he joined the Air Force and was stationed in England where he met and married his beloved wife of 59 years, Marion Helen Coleby. They were married in August of 1956 and were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. Gary and Marion returned to the United States after his discharge from the Air Force, moving to Pocatello where he once again went to work for the railroad. The young couples union produced four children, two daughters and two sons, eleven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, all of who will miss him profoundly. Gary was active in his church fulfilling callings in Scouting, Ward and Stake Clerk, Bishops Counselor twice, and High Counselor. He and Marion served a mission in 1998, working in the Mission Home looking after the young Elders and Sisters whom they loved dearly. Garys quiet manner, tremendous strength, and sweet spirit were always at the forefront as he helped and served all he came in contact with. Gary leaves behind his wife, Marion; two daughters, Jolene (Douglas) Clinger, Lisa Munsee; two sons, Todd Munsee, Craig (Janet) Munsee; grandchildren, Jackie, Jillian, Dusty, Taryn, Maddy, Ally, Jacob, Alex, Sarah, Rebecca and four great-grandchildren, Macee, Coleby, Dax, and Noah. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; two sisters, Elaine and Geri; one brother, Danny; and a granddaughter, Leslie. Funeral services will be Monday, December 22, 2014 at 11 AM at the LDS Fremont Heights Ward, 1422 Gwen Dr. Pocatello, ID 83204. Family will receive friends Sunday, December 21, 2014 from 4-6 PM at Colonial Funeral Home 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, ID 208-233-1500 and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery with Military Honors. Condolences can be made to the family online at www.colonial-funeralhome.com
