Pocatello

Garnet Marie Roy, 75,  passed away peacefully on September 25, 2024 in Pocatello, Idaho. Miss Roy was born the fourth of nine children to Grant Edward Roy and Ruby Bertha Roy, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Her childhood was spent living in the mountains on Two Mile Creek Road in Osburn, ID. While from a family of modest means she was able to attend private Catholic school and later graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School in 1968.

Miss Roy had a passion for learning and teaching and graduated with her Bachelor's degree in Education from Boise State University. As a proud teacher, she stayed current with certifications and continuing education credits until her health declined. Miss Roy began her teaching career in Riggins, Idaho. After three years there she moved to Marsh Valley where she taught for 28 years until her retirement. She was perfectly suited to teach Special Education - it came naturally to her with her patience and big heart. Even after retirement she continued to teach, this time as a driver's education instructor.

In 1973, Garnet married Bill Edwards and their union was blessed with four children who she wholeheartedly loved and supported in any and all pursuits until her passing. Miss Roy loved reading and as a lifelong reader would make weekly trips to the public library for new books. When her children were younger, she was an avid bowler and member of a bowling league. She loved to thrift and bargain shop and could often be found looking for treasures. She was strongly principled and regularly supported causes near to her heart including the Special Olympics and state education - often getting her immediate and extended family involved with her passions. Later in life she found enjoyment in arts and crafts including coloring. She left behind hundreds of completed color pages for her family to enjoy. Her favorite color was green, which related to her favorite animal, frogs.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Grant Edward Roy and Ruby Bertha Roy, brother Darrell Roy and sister Claira Whittaker.

Miss Roy is survived by her children, Bruce Edwards of Arimo, ID; Greg Edwards of Holbrook, ID; Brenda (Jeff) Benson of Pocatello, ID; and Gina Edwards of Pocatello, ID; and her remaining siblings: Darlene, Gail, Catherine, Colleen, Wilfred, and Grant.
