Gale Christiansen

Gale M Christiansen, 84, a longtime resident of Pocatello passed away peacefully Sunday, July 22, 2012 surrounded by his family at his home.

Gale was born on February 26, 1928 in Pocatello, Idaho to Merrill Leroy and Grace Marietta (Bullock) Christiansen. He was the second oldest of five children. He attended school in Pocatello and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea from 1946 to 1948.

Upon his return from the service, he married Leora Marie Hancock from Pocatello and raised a family of six daughters. Throughout the years, Gale provided for his family by working as a cement mason, an underwriter for Prudential Life, a salesman for Brown's Ice Cream and NABISCO Co. He also worked with the United States Postal Service where he retired in November of 1990. Leora passed away on September 14, 1998.

n December 9, 2000, Gale married Ruth Byington Hayes, originally from Downey, Idaho. They resided in Pocatello and later moved to Idaho Falls.

Gale was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many callings and was a High Priest at the time his death.

Gale is survived by his wife, Ruth; six daughters, Galene (Clint) Robinson; Marsha (Charles) Olsen; Yvonne (Steve) Young; Marie Christiansen; Julie Harker (John) Buck; Lee Ann Hashem (Victor Pacheco); Ruth's daughter, Nancy (Dellas) Dustin; siblings, Gene B Christiansen; Dian Summers, and Clark J Christiansen; 34 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Gale was preceded in death by his parents, wife Leora and his brother Merlin.
