Floyd W. Strand

Floyd W. Strand, 91, passed away April 9, 2015. Born on December 17,1923 in Wild Rose, North Dakota, he lived there until his family moved to Bonners Ferry, Idaho when he was young, they later moved to Osburn, Idaho where he lived until 2010. Wanting to be near his two daughters, he moved to McCammon, Idaho where he lived with his oldest daughter, Darlene, and also stayed with his youngest daughter, Diane, when she was home from work. Floyd was married for 47 years to Maxine and they traveled frequently disappearing for weeks. Each summer they traveled to Alaska and fished for Salmon as often as they could. He caught many King Salmon, quite a few, over 50 lbs., which was the highlight of their travels to Alaska. Floyd worked for the Sunshine Mining Company after returning home from WWII where he was a member of the 398 th Engineering Regiment. He retired from the Sunshine after 43 years of service as an electrician and later Electrical Supervisor. The Strands were members of the United Church of Christ Congregational in Wallace, Idaho and often helped out with improvements to the Camp the church had on Lake Coeur dAlene. He was always available to help friends in need with any electrical problems they had. Floyd went elk hunting every year with his brother and friends during his working years. He came home with many nice elk over the years. He enjoyed being outdoors and attending to his many fruit trees on the property in Osburn. After his wife passed away, he played cards as often as he could, going to Pinochle three and four times a week. When he was with his daughter, Diane, they played cribbage every evening. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Maxine; parents, Edwin and Merta; brothers, Leon and Glen; nephew, Ron Strand. Survivors include his two daughters, Darlene (Tom) Bunker, and Diane Simons; sister-in law, Helen Strand; niece, Doris Strand; and nephew, Marvin (Lou) Strand. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Osburn Animal Shelter P.O. Box 865 Osburn, Idaho 83849. There will be no services.
