Fay Jones

Surrounded by family and friends, Fay Jones died peacefully at his home on April 10, 2014 at the age of 86.

Fay was the oldest of four children born to Bud and Mary (Rose) Jones in Malad City, Idaho. He came into this world on June 30, 1927. The family grew with the arrival of two sisters, Mary Lois and Sharon Lee and one brother, DeLon (Lonnie). He will forever be "Big brother and trusted protector".
Much of his childhood was spent during the worst years of the Great Depression. His generous spirit was developed as he learned to do with less and share what he has. He worked at whatever jobs he could find to help his family through difficult times but always found time to laugh and have fun with his many life-long friends. He loved sports and was a gifted athlete in football and boxing.

After graduating from Malad High School, he joined the Navy serving on the USS Tulagi during the final year of WWII. After his discharge, he returned to Malad City where he married Emma Ruth Burton of Downey. While living in Downey, they would welcome seven children: Gary, Larry, Hal, Lance, Buddy, Anita and Layne.

For many years Fay was a route driver and supervisor for Eddy's Bakery. He became friends with customers, fellow workers and even competitors. He was known as "the bread man" and became a familiar face and friend at each stop or events such as the Eastern Idaho State Fair. Breaking into Fay's bread truck to steal a pie was probably the first and hopefully the only criminal enterprise many of the kids in Downey engaged in.

Fay and Ruth divorced, and later he met and married Donna May Baldwin. Fay and Donna were sealed for time and eternity in the Idaho Falls temple.

Health issues caused Fay to leave the Bakery life but he stayed active running a small business he and Donna invested in with her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Kay Lynne Baldwin.

Fay was challenged by numerous serious health problems over the last 30 years of his life. He met and overcame each of these with hard work and his overwhelming sense of optimism. He was not only a good patient but also a good friend to his many doctors, nurses, assistants and all who provided him with care. He always had a kind word and a heartfelt ‘thank you' for each one.
He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he had different callings through the years. He was proud of the time spent with many families as a Home teacher and friend. His responsibilities were important but family was always first on his agenda. He never missed a family reunion and was involved with as many family activities as he could. If there was a conflict, family obligations always came first. He was always an outgoing person who loved seeing and visiting with other people. He loved making people laugh and didn't mind re-telling the same story as long as it got better with the second telling.

After he and Donna retired, they loved traveling around the country and made trips to a number of other countries. One of their greatest joys was spending time in their RV in Mackay with friends they met who were spending their summers there as well.

He was preceded in death by his sons: Lance, Gary and Buddy.

Fay is survived by: his wife, Donna, children; Larry (Vicki), Hal (Kathy), Anita, Layne, his family by marriage; Jeff (Kay Lynne) Baldwin, Bill (Linda) Baldwin, Joel (Lori) Baldwin, siblings; Lois (Von) Bloxham, Sharon (Steve) Jones, DeLon "Lonnie" (Karen) Jones, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was "Uncle Fay" to many nieces and nephews.

Fay loved backrubs, country music, eating at the Dude Ranch Cafe in Malad, visiting with friends and family and watching Judge Judy on TV. He lived his life with a twinkle in his eye. May we all be so lucky.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the Chubbuck 3rd Ward LDS Chapel located at 4773 Independence, Chubbuck, Id. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m., Monday, April 14, Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Rd., Chubbuck, Id and for one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will follow services at Mountain View Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Pocatello Veterans' Honor Guard.
