Evelyn Mabel Phillips Hegsted was born on April 7th, 1935 in Aberdeen, Idaho, to Harvey John and Mabel Vivian Wahlen Phillips. She had 1 brother and 3 sisters. She attended school in Aberdeen and graduated in 1953. She enrolled at ISU in Elementary Education and she graduated later with her Bachelor's degree.
She married Dan Wray Hegsted in the Idaho FallsTemple on June 17, 1955. They lived in Aberdeen where she taught school at Grandview, Idaho. They then moved to Blackfoot for a short time and then to their present home in Pocatello. She started teaching for the Pocatello School District at Hawthorne and then Syringa. She retired from Syringa after completing 43 years of service. She loved teaching.
She belonged to Delta Kappa Gamma which is a teachers organization serving as an officer many times. She also belonged to the Meadowbrook Book Club. She was active in the LDS church and held many different callings.
She loved to read, walk with her friends, bind and cut quilt blocks, spend time at the cabin, and be with her family.
She is survived by her husband Dan; her children, Vivian Dian Hegsted (Dennis) Bowman and Daniel Mark (Dede) Hegsted; 6 grandchildren, Jake (Melissa) Humpherys, Danielle (Eric) Larsen, Anna Hegsted, Jon (Shirlee) Hegsted, Cindy (Daniel) Lund, Sara (Sam) Michell; 9 great-grandchildren, Hailey, Katelyn, MaKensie, Lyndee, Boston, Kenneth, Ian, Dallin and Berkeley; two sisters, Gwen Marie (Gene) Packer and Edith Jennie (LeRoy) Miller.
Preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert Dale and sister Alma Roberta.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 17, 2017 at the Meadowbrook LDS Chapel on 300 E. Chapel Rd. in Pocatello. A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. On Sunday, July 16 at Wilks Funeral Home 211 W. Chubbuck Rd. and one hour prior to services at the church. Internment will follow services in the Aberdeen Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at wilksfuneralhome.com.
