Eva "Mae" Hitchcock

Eva Mae (Hottel) Hitchcock, (82), passed away peacefully in the care of family on Sept. 6, 2020. Mae was born November 23, 1934, to Benjamin Franklin Hottel and Eva Margaret (Porritt) Hottel. She was raised in Pocatello, Idaho, where she gained fond memories of gatherings on family farms, feeding lambs, fishing, and playing with Mickey, the beloved family dog. Mae attended schools in Pocatello. Her student body was responsible for deciding the colors, name, and mascot for the new Alameda Jr. High school. She graduated in 1955 from Pocatello High School. At a dance at the old Deleta skating rink, she "met the man of my dreams," she would say, Jerry G. Hitchcock. Mae and Jerry married July of 1955. Three years and three babies later, Mae decided it was time to learn to drive and got her drivers license! Mae and Jerry prided themselves on their annual garden. "It was a lot of work but fed many family members and neighbors." Besides teaching their children a strong work ethic, "we played a lot, too." Fishing was a favorite pastime, as well as hunting. Everyone learned to shoot. "Shotguns were for birds and rifles for big game." Mae was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Besides working on genealogy, Mae loved "most anything crafty," including sewing, quilting, crocheting, tole painting, and scrap booking. She donated many of her works to local hospitals and to humanitarian groups when needs arose in far-flung areas of the world. Mae loved to attend the temple in Idaho Falls and hoped to visit many others. She also loved people and collected friends. Mae is survived by her children, Margaret (Kimm) Waldram, Lee (Michelle) Hitchcock, and Lynn (Julie) Hitchcock; and grandchildren, Marcie (Christian) Evans, Amy (Jason) Rice, Kristy (Jon) Waldram, Michelle Sanders, Michael (Marcla) Hitchcock, Travis (Chelsea) Hitchcock, Brian (Courtney) Greener, Janica (Justin)Backstrom, Ashlee (Kade) Hitchcock, Danielle Fisher, Dustin Finch, Brittney Peake, Caitlyn Peake and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her 3 sisters, Ester Vaughn, Christine Hill and Peggy (Danny) Mielke; and her brothers, Lester Hottel and John Hottel. She is preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Eva Hottel; and her brothers, William, Benjamin, Duane (Jolene), and Stephen Hottel. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 11, 2020, at 2 p.m. at the Portneuf LDS church building, 8200 Portneuf Rd., Pocatello, Idaho. Maes family will receive friends and family at the Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave., Pocatello on Thursday, September 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. and also at the church one-hour prior to the service. Please wear a mask. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 2864 S. 5th Ave. Pocatello, ID..
