Eugene Lee Hendricks of Chubbuck, Idaho, born December 4th, 1942, passed away peacefully on his 81st birthday, December 4th, 2023.
Gene is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marlene Kay Steele Hendricks, his sons, Darrin Gene Hendricks, Deon Grae Hendricks, Jason Kay Hendricks, and David Kieth Hendricks, and his grandchildren, Heath, McKay, Payden, Ava, Corrine, Dominick, and Cayden. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Alva Hendricks and Ione Sant Hendricks, son Brian Matthew Hendricks and granddaughter Pamela Kay Hendricks. Eugene is also survived by two brothers, Dennis Kay Hendricks and Bruce Verlon Hendricks, two sisters, Mary Lou Hendricks Roberts and Ranae Valeria Hendricks Bettenhausen.
Gene loved to fish, hunt, camp and go horseback riding. He had a love for the outdoors that he got from his father and passed along to his children. He also loved to bowl, play cards, and enjoyed square dancing with his wife. His hometown of Pocatello is located in a valley surrounded by mountains, rivers, and lakes which was perfect for his outdoor hobbies.
Gene is a graduate of Pocatello High, the class of 1961. After high school Gene became a member of the local 648 Plumber and PipeFitters Union. His career took him all over the U.S. He traveled to Wyoming, New Hampshire, Montana, New York, California, and Illinois. He met his first wife Bonnie Dudley in 1963, and had two of five boys, Darrin Gene and Deon Grae. He met and married his current wife Marlene in Morris, Illinois in 1970. He later moved back to Idaho and had his three other boys, Brian, Jason, and David, and bought a large plot of land to raise livestock and his family. Gene was a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Gene also loved to watch bull riding and football, mainly the Chicago Bears, which he got from his wife and from his time spent in Illinois. Gene loved getting together with his family, especially during the holidays. He even got to spend one last Thanksgiving watching the games with most of his family.
