Eugene F. Dumesnil, Jr., (Gene), 99, of Pocatello, passed away July 6, 2023. Gene was born on May 21,1924 in Richmond Hill, N.Y. He graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in St. Albans, N.Y. He attended the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N. Y. and Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. studying mechanical engineering, before being commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1944, at the height of World War II. He served as a Ship’s Engineer on a minesweeper in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he began his career as an engineer first with Grummond and later with Fairbanks Morse. He finished his career as Vice President of Sales at Red Devil and then at Grant Hardware.

Gene married the love of his life, Beverly Jones, on June 29, 1957 in Washington, D.C. This union was blessed with two children: Laura and Eugene III (Chip). Gene was an avid golfer and a highly skilled woodworker. He created many family heirlooms that are still in use and treasured.

Gene is survived by his daughter Laura (Peter) Sheridan and his son Chip (Josie Garcia) Dumesnil, 3 grandchildren (Chris Garcia (Jenny), Noelle Garcia, and Jamie Sheridan), and 3 great-grandchildren (Elijah Garcia, Aiden Garcia, and Isla Garcia), and many beloved nieces and nephews and their families.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife Bev, his parents, and his brother Paul.

We would like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff at Heritage Hospice for their kind and loving care of Gene during the latter stages of his full and rich life. We also would like to thank his caregiver, Colette Gallagher, for her attentive care during this time.
