Elmo Muir, 92, passed away on October 9, 2022.
Elmo was born on a farm in Chesterfield, Idaho. He experienced the Great Depression while he was young. His family lost their farm, and they moved to St. Anthony when he was 9, almost 10 years old. They lived there for three years before moving to Layton, Utah. Mo was farmed out to people until they settled. He went to Jr. High and moved to Rockland where he worked on Uncle Bill’s farm. He eventually joined the Navy at the age of 17, with permission from his mother. He served as a fireman on the USS Boeing straight from November 9, 1948 until January 26 1950, in San Diego, California.
Elmo married the love of his life on March 6, 1953. Susan was born a year later in March of 1954. They moved to Georgetown when Annie was born in September of 1955. He moved to Pocatello for work and Michael was born in June of 196. Lisa was born in January of 1963. He worked for Baitt Plant and Golob’s. In 1969 he came back to work for Garrett Freightlines where he remained for several years.
In 1971, the family moved into their home on Wyldwood, and Elmo has lived there ever since.
Mo was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, snow-mobiling, and a lot of boating. He loved tinkering and was an inventor of many things. He enjoyed learning about genealogy, loved John Wayne movies and Louis L’Amour books. He also loved helping people.
The family would like to thank Enhabit Hospice, the members of his ward, and the many loving hands that cared for him and made his death an easy journey.
Elmo is survived by his sister, Carol Ashworth, and two daughters, Susan “Suzie” Newell and Lisa Bybee.
He is preceded in death by his wife Katherine Stephens Muir, son Michael Muir, daughter Ann Plain, and grandson Troy Kron.
