Elmo Elias Keller passed away Monday, January 18th, 2021, at the family home in Pocatello, Idaho, of natural causes incident to his age. Elmo, known as Mo to family and friends, was 90 years old.
He was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, January 16th, 1931, to Ernest and Margaret Crofts Keller, the youngest of seven living half-brothers and sisters: Bill, Gerald, and Dean Crofts, and Elaine, Ernie, Madeleine, and Max Keller. Raised in Iona, Idaho, he served stateside in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, then returned home to run the family dry farm when his father died.
Elmo married Bonnie Swendsen in September 1954. After several years of farming, he and Bonnie moved their growing family of three children, David, Dale, and Debra, to Idaho Falls. In 1957 Elmo began a successful career at the Idaho Nuclear Energy Laboratory Site, starting as a custodian and gradually working his way upward through the ranks with study and experience to become an efficient and well thought of Safety Engineer.
After retirement in Arizona, Elmo, who found more joy in work than any other recreation, continued to practice his profession with various work contracts across the west, ending in Idaho at INEL where he'd begun. He's survived at the family home in Pocatello by his current wife Liza Keller, his three children, son David (wife Editt) of Lake Point, Utah, son Dale (wife Melissa) of Sandy, Utah, and daughter Debra (partner Steve) of Palatine, Illinois, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Elmo requested that he be cremated with his ashes spread at the various locations he loved. Due to the Covid pandemic, family and friends will put off gathering for a final goodbye until a later date.
