Elizabeth "Betty" Josephine Roberts passed peacefully into the arms of our Father on July 9, 2014. She was born November 11, 1927 in Fort Worth, Texas to Harry and Mamie (Parker) Easton. Betty graduated High School from Polytechnic in Fort Worth and earned a Baccalaureate Degree in Speech Therapy at Texas State College for Women.
She married her first and only love, Robert "Bob" Roberts and they attended University at Southwest Texas State in San Marcos. She completed all course work toward her Master's Degree prior to his graduation in Special Education and they moved to Waco, Texas where she began working at The Crippled Children's Hospital, volunteering at the Laura Edwards Latin American Center, and establishing a comfortable household.
Bob was a disabled war Veteran, but determined to make his way in the world and began teaching Special Education for the Conolly School District. They found a wonderful group of people at Trinity United Methodist Church and being an attractive, loveable couple they quickly made friends.
They were blessed with two daughters, and they showered us with love and education. Mother adored Poetry, Drama, Ballet, Art and Literature. She enrolled us in a Kindergarten that started us in Ballet, Tap and Tumbling at age 3. Mother read us stories from around the world, teaching us appreciation for cultural and ethnic variability from birth onward. As we grew, she was a whirlwind of activity and creativity; organizing events from family picnics to church bazaars, hand making beautiful costumes for our dance recitals, baking delicious pies, cakes, and cookies, running a yearly Summer camp for crippled children, shuttling us to school, dance lessons, music lessons, art lessons, drama classes, editing and publishing a church cookbook and organizing the church library to Library of Congress Standards. Yet a rainy day might be spent taping newsprint to the livingroom walls and fingerpainting with us. Mother always seemed to have plenty of time for her children and often told us that we were the Greatest Accomplishment of her life - eclipsing even her nomination and acceptance into Who's Who in American Women. She will be loved and missed.
She is survived by daughters; Jo Lu Roberts of Waco, Texas and Lee Ann Roberts Abraszewski of Pocatello, Idaho. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at The Gables Assisted Living Center in Pocatello, Idaho for making Mom's last 2 years exceptional. A Rememberance Service will be held in Waco at 10:00 AM on Saturday July 19, 2014 at Central United Methodist Church, 5740 Bagby Ave. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.wilksfuneralhome.com.
