Eleanor Nuckols

Eleanor Elaine Allard Nuckols, age 91, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2011 At a assisted living facility in Idaho Falls, Idaho . Eleanor was born on April 27, 1919 in Pocatello, Idaho the daughter of William and Mitilda (Dundore) Allard. She grew up and attended elementary school in Arbon Valley, Idaho, graduating from high school in Pocatello, Idaho in 1937. She attended the University of Idaho, Southern Branch, in Pocatello and went on to graduate from the University of Idaho, Moscow with a BS Degree in Business in 1942. Eleanor worked for the Union Pacific Rail Road Co. in various clerical positions, before taking a Leave of Absence and joining the US Navy (Waves) in 1945, where she served as a Teletype Operator. She received her Honorable Discharge from the Navy in May of 1946, and on June 1, 1946 married James D. Nuckols in Pocatello, Idaho. James and Eleanor moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where Mr. Nuckols worked as a salesman for General Mills for about one year. They then moved to Arbon Valley, Idaho and farmed on the William Allard homestead for about 30 years. Mr. Nuckols preceded her in death on April 4, 1985. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd, and served at one time, on the YMCA Board of Directors, and was a member of WAVES National, D.A.V., and AARP. Her hobbies were gardening, oil painting, making stained glass items, and sewing. She was preceded in death by as mentioned, her husband, James as well as her parents; four brothers and a sister. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Louise Nuckols (Lynn) King of Big Springs, Nebraska; sons, Daniel Richard (Karen) Nuckols and David Allard (Mikki) Nuckols all of Idaho Falls, Idaho; seven grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and one on its way. As per Eleanor's request there will be no visitation, and a Memorial for Eleanor will be held at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 South 4th Avenue, on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. and her urn burial will be next to her husband, James, at a later date in the Mountain View Cemetery, Pocatello, Idaho. The family has requested that donations be made in lieu of flowers to: Idaho Youth Ranch, 5465 W. Irving Street, Boise, Idaho 83706 in behalf of Eleanor Nuckols.
