Eldon Dixon, age 76, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 14th, 2022 with his youngest daughter by his side.
Eldon was born December 3rd, 1945 in Sacramento California to Marjorie and Virge Dixon, the 3rd of 7 children. He grew up in Carmichael California and then moved with the family to Billings Montana in 1960. He graduated from Billings West High School in 1963. His passion for education can be seen through the following degrees: Associates Degree in Applied Science, Ricks College in Rexburg Idaho (now BYU-I), Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy (soil science), BYU, Master’s Degree in Science Economics, Utah State University, PhD in Agricultural Economics, Cornell University New York, Certificate in Laser/Electric-Optics, Idaho State University.
He owned various businesses, was a financial and market research consultant, and an entrepreneur with a wide variety of interests.
Eldon became an Officer in the Army in 1971. His military education included the Airborne School, US Army Infantry School, Officer’s Course, US Army Air Defense School, Officer Logistical School, USAREUR, Officers Advanced Course, US Army Air Defense School, Command and General Staff College, US Army Reserve Forces. Through his service in the Army and Army Reserves, he earned the high honor of Lt. Colonel in September 1993. He received many awards and medals for his hard work and dedication. In later years, he volunteered for the Army Veterans Honor Guard in Pocatello Idaho. He will be receiving Military Honors at his graveside service.
On June 22nd, 1967 he married Rosmary Reed in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were blessed with 6 children- Malinda, Josh, Troy, Jeff, David, and Stephanie. They later divorced in 1988.
Throughout his life, Eldon loved learning and staying up to date with current, local, and world events. He enjoyed reading the newspaper and books and doing crossword puzzles. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He would tell them stories, teach them games, and help with homework. Before his medical disabilities took over, dad used to jog, go on walks, and play racquetball.
In 1996 he had his first of many brain surgeries. Through all of these he showed his true strength and fought to be with his kids and grandkids. We are all so thankful for being able to have as many years as we did with our dad/grandpa/great grandpa. No matter his ailments, he still attended dance recitals and sporting events as much as he could to show his support.
Eldon is survived by his children Malinda Dixon, San Diego CA; Josh Dixon, Idaho Falls ID; Troy (Sundie) Dixon, Pocatello ID; Jeff (Brandy) Dixon, Ririe ID; David (Casey) Dixon, Chubbuck ID; and Stephanie Dixon, Chubbuck ID; 11 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren with one more arriving in December.
His siblings Rita (Cordell) Ringle, St. George UT; Gary (Margie) Dixon, Twin Falls ID; Lynn (Joyce) Dixon, Shepherd MT; Donna (Brent) Adams, Redwood City CA; Dan (Margie) Dixon, St Louis MO; Bonnie (Randy) Steck, Portland OR.
Eldon is preceded in death by his parents, Marjorie & Virge Dixon, and two grandchildren, Ashley Dixon and Troy Dixon Jr.
A viewing will be held in his honor from 9-10:30 AM on Monday, 19 September, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 4773 Independence Avenue in Chubbuck. A private family luncheon will be held immediately following the viewing. The burial will take place in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery in Rigby, Idaho.
