He finally settled in Pocatello in 1965 where he went to work for the Simplot Gay Mine in Fort Hall and was known as "Cowboy". He worked there until his retirement in 1995.
Dad was the best horse-shoer in the area and people from all over the southern part of the state called him to shoe their horses. He also loved to rope and ride and was a calf roper in his younger days. He later went on to team roping. He participated in several Simplot roping events.
