Elaine Leone Ostler

December 29, 1929 — April 6, 2021

Elaine Leone Poole Ostler, 91 years of age, passed away the afternoon of April 6, 2021 in Pocatello, Idaho. She was born at home in Pocatello, Idaho on December 29, 1929 and was the third child to James and Leone Poole. The family lived in a small house at 246 Roosevelt, with an extra lot next to the house that they used as a playground and garden. Elaine danced her way through Roosevelt Elementary School, Irving Junior High and Pocatello High School, graduating third in her class in 1948. She took all of the difficult classes and especially enjoyed math courses, but took typing and shorthand as elective classes. Since advisors discouraged her pursuit of difficult studies, she began working as a stenographer after school.

Elaine began dating Richard Ostler her junior year and was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Richard when she was 18. Two years later they married in the Idaho Falls temple on June 9, 1949. They were a hardworking, determined couple, working at new jobs in Richfield, Utah, and then serving two years in the British Mission of the LDS Church. Elaine's love of helping others has continued her whole life. Her secretarial skills helped support the family through Dick's medical schooling, but she was delighted after that to be at home with their three children, Fred, Brian and Nancy. Later, she became the Office Manager for Dick's medical practice.

Elaine had a passion for sewing, she proudly handmade most of her children's and grandchildren's clothes, coats and formal wear. Her love for sewing became her favorite hobby where she became a skilled quilt maker. In her last days, she completed ten quilts for all her great granddaughters. She also enjoyed genealogy, baking, cake decorating, and gardening, always willing to teach and share her skills with her family and community.

Elaine lived a long, productive life along with Richard and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She has been an example worthy of imitation and been a great influence to her family, church and many others. She will be greatly missed.

Elaine is preceded in death by her husband Richard Ostler, brother James "Bud" Poole, and sister Rosemary Livingston. She is survived by her children Fred Jon Ostler (Vicki), Brian Robert Ostler (Sandra), and Nancy Lynn Scott (Lamar). There are eleven grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren.
