It is with profound sorrow that the children of Egon Jensen announce his passing. Egon, age 85, died of natural causes on Wednesday, September 10, 2014.
Egon was born on April 7, 1929 in Odder, Denmark to Osvald and Signe Jensen. He was the second of three children. He grew up in Odder and completed two years of military service. Before and after his military service he worked on farms in Denmark, England, and Canada. Egon decided to come to Idaho to visit Danish relatives and work so that he could continue his travels. But then he met his soul mate at Arthur Murray's Dance Studio. Because of this, he stayed in Pocatello the rest of his life.
On April 6, 1957, Egon married Gwyneth, the love of his life. They were married for 52 years until her passing. Egon and Gwyneth were devoted to each other and their four children, Diane, Tim, Ron, and Cherie.
Egon was a maintenance mechanic at the J.R. Simplot Company for over 30 years. He hunted and fished with his boys and pampered his girls. His "homestead" in Island Park meant a great deal to him and his family. Traveling in the U.S.A. and throughout the world, gardening in his "local health garden", and taking exercise classes at Fitness were his hobbies.
Preceding Egon in death are his wife Gwyneth, his parents, and his older brother. He is survived by his younger brother, Gunnar Jensen, of Denmark, daughter Diane Pierce of Ammon, Idaho, son Tim (and Kelli) Jensen of Butte, Montana, son Ron (and Karen) Jensen of Pocatello, and daughter Cherie (and Dan) Rymer of Pocatello, as well as 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 West Chubbuck Road in Chubbuck. The viewing will be from 10-11:00 A.M. The family would like to express their thanks to Alliance Home Health & Hospice for their compassionate hospice care and to Elegant Assisted Living.
