Loving father, son, and brother, Edwin Jack Neil M.D., M.S., 65, passed away due to medical complications at his home in Pocatello, Idaho on August 2, 2018.
Ed was born to Jack and Paula Neil on August 28, 1952 in Pocatello, Idaho. He graduated from Highland High School. He served a mission in Venezuela for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Ed had a love for learning and attended many universities in his pursuit of medical knowledge. ISU – degree in Zoology and Pre-Med; U of U (Utah) School of Medicine – degree Doctor of Medicine; U of O (Oregon) Health Science University – intern in General Surgery and resident in General Surgery; Denver General Hospital – Emergency Medical Services – American College of Emergency Physicians – Category I; Texas Tech University – Health Science Center – fellowship in Pain Management and resident in Anesthesiology.
While Ed was in Portland, OR, he met and married Penny Palmer and together they had a darling daughter, Angela Leigh Neil.
Ed retired in December 2000 from Family Care and Urgent Medical Clinics in Vancouver, WA. His business card read as follows, Edwin Neil, M.D., M.S., Physician, Surgeon, Pain Management, and Ambulatory Anesthesiology. Upon retirement Ed finished his research and wrote, Opti-Stretch Versus Recurrent Back Pain, copyright 2005, by Edwin J. Neil, M.D., M.S. And with the help of his sister, Terry Murray, he formed the company, Opti-Stretch. Terry taught the course in Utah at various schools, and health and fitness centers, with Ed being guest speaker on a regular basis.
Ed's hobbies included hunting, skiing, swimming, dancing, handball, tennis, shooting pool, gardening and flying. With his pilot's license, he participated in many funeral services by scattering cremated remains of families' loved ones over the ocean.
Ed was preceded in death by his father, Jack Neil. He is survived by his daughter, Angela Neil; mother, Paula Neil; two sisters, Terry Neil-Murray and Jerry Neil-Andersen; one brother, Jay Neil; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Edwin will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Meadowbrook LDS Chapel, 300 E. Chapel Street in Pocatello, ID. Those services will conclude at the family burial plot in the Wardboro Cemetery, near Montpelier, ID.
