Edith May Tilton Ruth passed away peacefully on October 25, 2020 at her home at the age of 101. She was born May 14, 1919, in Casa Grande, Arizona. She was the fourth child born to Lyle and Ruth Goodman Tilton, with six more siblings to follow. Shortly after her birth the family moved to St. David, Arizona. Being advanced for her age she started 1st grade at 5 years old and graduated at the top of her class at age 16.
At the age of 21 she moved to Tucson where she worked as a telephone operator. There she met the love of her life, Chet Ruth, who was serving in the Army Air Corp and stationed in Tucson. They quickly fell in love, but the bombing of Pearl Harbor changed the course of their lives when Chet was sent to California. They were married May 18, 1942 in Visalia, California. Their marriage was solemnized on November 4, 1955, in the Mesa Arizona Temple. They had 3 short months together before Chet was shipped overseas. He didn't return until the war ended 3½ years later. Not wanting to be alone and expecting her first child, she moved home to Arizona to live with her parents. Chet returned home in August of 1945 and they made St. David their home, adding 7 more children to their family.
In August of 1964, Chet was hired by the J.R. Simplot Company so they moved their family to Pocatello. Here they raised their family and Edith spent her life caring for her children and faithfully serving her church in many various callings.
Her beloved Chet passed away unexpectedly in 1978. Having a strong will, she picked herself up and lived life to the fullest for 43 more years. Her family was everything to her and she was everything to her family.
She is survived by her brother Vern (LaVera) Tilton, Pocatello; children: Brent Pulley (son-in-law), Tempe, Arizona; Beverly Reisner, Idaho Falls; John Ruth, Pocatello; Dorothy Ruth, Pocatello; Cathy (Brent) Almond, Blackfoot; Jim (Debi) Ruth, Pocatello; Dan (Eileen) Ruth, Pocatello; Sheri (Dwight) Long, Idaho Falls; 22 grandchildren, and 47 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 10 siblings, her husband Chet, her daughter Bonnie Pulley, her son-in-law Mel Reisner, and great-grandson, Easton Reisner.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Encompass Home Health and Hospice for the tender loving care and support they offered her and her family during these past few weeks.
Services will be held on October 31, 2020, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 300 E. Chapel Street, Pocatello. Family and friends will be received from 10:00-10:45 am, and funeral services will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Park.
