Dwain Alexander Kinghorn

Our beloved husband and father, Dwain Alexander Kinghorn left this life May 10, 2011.

Dwain was born September 1, 1916 at Clark, Idaho, the son of Alexander and Myrtle Lydia Walker Kinghorn. He was the third child, first son, in a family of ten siblings. The family occupation was farming and they moved to a number of areas in Idaho. When he was 8 years of age, his family moved to Conrad, Montana, where he attended school and helped his father with farm work. It was at this time he gained the work ethic that he held all his life. After some years, the family returned to Idaho. As jobs were not easy to come by, he worked at a number of places. He spent a few summers working with hay crews in Wisdom, Montana. He learned many skills and was a self-made man. He farmed and worked for Ferrell Hansen on the New Osgood Project. In 1943, he moved his family to Pocatello where he continued farming, worked at Coca-Cola, the railroad and with his father at the service station. In 1951 he went to work at Kraft Foods, and continued there until he retired in 1983.

Dwain met Bernice Barrow at Riverside Garden in Rigby. They were both excellent dancers and spent many an evening dancing in each other's arms. They were married October 5, 1940 in Rigby at her sister's home. They were sealed as an eternal family at the Idaho Falls Temple in 1951.

Dwain was an avid fisherman. He loved working in his yard and garden, woodworking, reading, traveling and going to the spa.

Dwain was active in his church, serving in offices in the bishopric, Stake Sunday School and High Priest Group Leadership. He was a temple worker and served on the Pocatello/Chubbuck Interfaith Council. He and Bernice served in the Louisiana Baton Rouge Mission.

Community was also very important to Dwain; he served on the planning and zoning board and for 14 years held the position as City Councilman for Chubbuck.
Dwain is survived by his wife, Bernice and their children, Elaine (Wesley) Albertson; Orin “Spike” (Barbara) Kinghorn; Patricia Sue (Jim) Critchley; Carla Jean (Harris) Gilbert, Kathryn (Paul) Willes and Steven Dwain (Lisa) Kinghorn, 26 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and his siblings, Gayle Nelson, Norma Nelson, Jean Harris, Richard Kinghorn, and Morris Kinghorn.

Dwain was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and a great-grandson.
