Duane Kenneth Johnson was born on September 25th, 1944 in Hudson, SD to Kenneth and Hazel Johnson. He was raised on the family farm in Centerville, SD with his two brothers and three sisters. He graduated with a degree in Business Management/Economics from Sioux Falls College in 1966 and earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration in 1976.
He married Connie Stapp in Sioux Falls on December 16, 1966. One month later in January1967, he joined the Air Force and honorably served for 26 years before retiring as a Colonel in 1993. Following retirement, he relocated to Fort Collins, CO and began an encore career as a Logistics Services Consultant. In 2012, he and Connie settled in Idaho Falls, ID. They made one final move to Pocatello, ID to live with his daughter and son-in-law Kim and Tony Manu in 2019.
In addition to all his career accomplishments, he was a man of many hidden talents. He loved entertaining his grandkids with magic tricks and his guitar, banjo, and harmonica. He was also a master wood worker. All of his kids own some of his custom-crafted furniture, rocking horses, bean bag toss games, and skateboard ramps. He was also a master cartoonist and loved drawing funny cartoon caricatures of his kids and grandkids doing things they loved. He was the ultimate gift-giver. And the greatest gift and most valuable legacy he passed on to his family was his faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus.
Duane is survived by his wife Connie Johnson of Pocatello, ID; daughter Kim (Tony) Manu of Pocatello, ID; daughter Kelly (Mark) Phillips of Modesto, CA; son Ryan (Becca) of Meridian, ID; grandsons, Avery, Taison, Kyler, Aren, Jake, and Bridger; granddaughters, Madeline and Brooke; great-granddaughter, Reagan; brother, Dave; sisters, Pat, Margie, and Sharon. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth, mother, Hazel, and brother, Richard.
Private family services will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2020. Private viewing on Wednesday, October 28, 2020. Military Rites and Honors will be held at the Idaho State Veteran Cemetery in Boise Idaho on Thursday. October 29, 2020.
