Duane Thompson, 74, passed away peacefully February 1, 2010, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born October 19, 1935 to (Red K. Carson) Thompson Jr. and Lorinda Trahan Thompson at the old hospital in Fort Hall. His paternal grandfather is Casey Thompson Sr. and Emma Leigh who's father is Beaver Dick Leigh-the famous mountain man who lived in the Jackson Hole area and Susan Tadpole, a Bannock woman. His maternal grandmother is Lucy Ortiz Trahan and maternal grandfather is Fred Trahan from the Salish and Kootenai Reservation.

Duane worked for 42 years for the Bureau of Indian Affairs with 13 years as the Fort Hall Agency Superintendent. He worked his way up to that job also working as an engineer in the Roads department.

One of the best moments in his life is when the Shoshone-Bannock people had faith in him to elect him to two terms on the Fort Hall Business Council serving one year as chairman. The other memorable moments are the birth of his children.

Duane married Margaret U. Moon on August 29, 1953 with whom he enjoyed many wonderful years together with.

Duane had a special love for his family and grandchildren. He was also enjoyed hunting, bowling and gambling.

Duane is survived by his wife Margaret Thompson, Fort Hall; daughter, Rose (Wally) Lish of Chubbuck; daughter , Donna (Dave) Bollinger of Fort Hall; son, Richard (Elma) Thompson of Fort Hall; son, Randy (Terri) Thompson of Fort Hall; daughter, Denise Thompson of Blackfoot; sisters, Regina Fink of Vancouver, WA, Loreen Thompson of Fort Hall, Kit Thompson of Portland, OR, Valorie Gaede of Vancouver, WA, and 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Duane was preceded in death by; a son, Tony Duane Thompson, his parents, sister, Vera Brown, brother, Everette Thompson and sister, Delores Chacon.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Shoshone-Bannock Elderly Nutrition Program.
