Douglas Leslie Hyde

March 26, 1946 — October 29, 2021

Douglas Leslie Hyde passed away peacefully at his home October 29, 2021. A loving brother and uncle, Doug was born March 26, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to LaMonte B and Mima Irene Simmonds Hyde. He was the 3rd of 9 children. Doug attended school in Tooele, Utah, and Preston, Idaho.

Doug loved spending time with his siblings, he enjoyed reading stories to them when they were little. He was a Boy Scout and excelled at swimming, canoeing, and camping. He enjoyed hunting with his dad and brothers.
Animals were always a part of Doug’s life. He grew up with horses, goats, and ducks. He loved his dogs and ferrets. Among others, he had a Chihuahua named Tequila and a Chinese Crested long hair named Hope, who has been a loving companion to him for 6 years. Tropical and saltwater fish were a passion of Doug’s. He had several very large tanks throughout the years.

Doug loved cars and trucks. Truck driving, auto body repair and painting, tow truck operator and auto mechanics were some of the jobs he had in his lifetime. He retired from Lamont’s Auto Repair in Preston. He delighted in going to the demolition derby every year at the fair with his niece and her family until he was unable to walk long distances anymore. Photography was also a hobby of Doug’s, and he snapped many photos of his family and sporting events.

NASCAR was Doug’s biggest passion, and he was fortunate to attend three Talladega Superspeedway races in Alabama, experiences he never forgot. Dale Earnhardt and Dale Jr. were his favorite drivers. Practically everything he owned had a number 3 or 88 logo on it!

Doug is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Boyd and Michael; niece, Natalie; and nephew, Dustin Garner.

He is survived by brothers, Reggie, Bob (Diane), Cary (Nancy), David (Ann); sisters, LaRene (Junior) Chambers, Dawn (Kris) Stoddard; many, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and his dog, Hope.

Doug was a loving, caring, strong, independent person with a big personality. He adored his family and rarely missed a family get together. He will be greatly missed.

A heartfelt thanks to Heritage Home Health and Hospice for the care and compassion you showed my Uncle Doug. You truly are angels.

There will be no services held at this time.
