Doug Russell Johnson

Beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend returned to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on Sunday, June 6, 2021, in Pocatello, Idaho.

Doug was born July 18, 1991, to goodly parents Russell and Joan Johnson. He was lucky to call Tyhee, Idaho his home and lived a happy childhood working and playing on the farm with his siblings. As he grew Doug discovered his creative talent for flying a drone and loved capturing farmland and beautiful Tyhee sunsets.

Doug was always the life of the party and loved to have fun. He was a loyal friend—always supportive and compassionate to everyone. Doug graduated from Highland High School in 2009. His high school years were filled with baseball, frisbee golf, and long boarding with his friends.

In 2010, Doug was called to serve in the Micronesia Guam mission. His courageous and humble spirit bolstered his desire to selflessly serve—often in challenging and unique circumstances. His love for the Chuukese people ran deep and he stayed in touch with many of them long after returning home.

Doug attended Idaho State and Utah Valley Universities in pursuit of a computer science degree. He had a passion and love for technology and his knowledge blessed his family, friends, and employers.

Doug loved spending time with his family. Some of his favorite activities were motorcycle jumping, playing front-yard sports, camping in Island Park, and fishing on the boat. He was adored by his three nephews and niece and always made time to play and laugh with them. Doug is survived by his parents Russell and Joan Johnson, and his siblings Emily Barlow (Shaun, son Benson, daughter Ellie, son Knox), Neil Johnson (Molly, son Leo), and Holly Johnson.

Doug taught us to be adventurous, find joy, and “watch for the miracles” in our daily lives.

A gathering will be held on Friday, June 11th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Wilks Funeral Home located at 211 West Chubbuck Road Chubbuck, ID 83202. A second gathering will be begin one hour prior to the service. The funeral service to honor Doug’s life will take place on Saturday, June 12th at 12:00 p.m. at the LDS church located at 140 Bringhurst Street Pocatello, ID 83201.
