POCATELLO - Dorothy Henrietta Hoard Manning, 91, of Pocatello, Idaho passed away at home Wednesday January 19, 2011 with family at her side. Dorothy was born December 4, 1919 to David Gatfield Hoard and Colene Ada Fitzhugh in the small farming community of Niwot, near Boulder Colorado. She attended a one room school house and rode a pony to school. She trained as a beautician and worked in the same shop with her sister Edith. During WWII she worked as an inspector at the Remington Arms Factory in Denver, Colorado. Since gas was rationed she carpooled with Claude Webb "Bud" Manning who had an extra gas ration. They married November 15, 1942 and were sweethearts until his passing on April 21, 1983. They moved to Pocatello in 1974 when Bud became the purchasing manager at Bucyrus-Erie. Dorothy was a beautiful and dedicated "stay at home" mother and wife, whose life primarily revolved around her family. Dorothy and Bud raised two children, Claudia Colene Manning (Bill) Gatlin the owner of CMG International and Lieutenant Paul Thomas (Renee) Manning, of the Pocatello Police Department. She enjoyed RV travel, volunteered at Portneuf Medical Center, was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Portneuf Grange. She loved playing cards with her clubs, at the Grange and Senior Citizens Center. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Edith Hoard Puckett and brothers George, Frank, Kenneth and Stanley. She leaves 2 children, 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
