Dorotha Pauline Sutton

April 11, 1928 — July 18, 2019

PLEASE NOTE THE LOCATION AND TIME CHANGE Dorotha Pauline Sutton, 91, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2019. Dorotha Polly Perry was born April 11, 1928 in Lexington, Oklahoma to Lyda "Edith" Shelby and Clayton Perry. Three years later a young brother, Bob, joined the family. They lived in Paoli, OK until Dorotha turned 8 and then the family moved to Buckeye, Arizona. After graduation from the 8 th grade her parents divorced and mother married William "Bill" Sutton who later adopted the 2 children, Dorotha and Bob. They moved to Mesa, AZ. Dorotha found high school a pleasant experience and graduated in 1945. She especially enjoyed her time at Arizona State College in Tempe, Arizona where she studied Social Work. She wanted so much to graduate, but unable to secure financing or get a job, she decided to move closer to family, relocating in Blackfoot and transferring her studies to Idaho State College in Pocatello where she studied off and on for many more years. Her particular interest in social work was research and interpretation. She used her skills throughout her life analyzing the effects of political strategies on social ills. After her college years she moved to Salt Lake City to work for 10 years. After a time which included a brief marriage and the birth of a son, David, she decided to move closer to family and settle in Pocatello. David had been born with severe birth defects and it was a handful to care for him. Dorotha credits her parents for caring for him and treating him with loving tenderness during his short ten years on earth. Dorotha had a variety of interesting positions during her career life; finally retiring after 20 years of service from Lamb Weston in the 80s to pursue her hobbies of gardening, doll-making and creative writing. She was also an avid decorator and remodeler of her Craftsman-style home. Reflecting on her life, Dorotha wrote, "I am grateful for each year and to see spring again in Pocatello. I have loved living in Pocatello at Ridge Retirement Home with my many lovely friends. I also appreciate my friends at First Presbyterian Church and Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.). My friends in T.O.P.S. club helped me spend a few months at a more desirable weight. I also loved my former neighbors on Roosevelt Street and my brother, Bobs step-children who have treated me like family through thick and thin. Special thanks to my friends Brenda Pollard and Kara Whitworth and their families. Besides my dear cousin, Nancy Poole in Oklahoma, I have no family left, but all the people Ive mentioned have helped me enjoy these last years. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 2 pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 202 S. 7th Ave, Pocatello, with a viewing for one hour prior. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5 th Ave. Pocatello, ID.
