Doris Leola Gilbert passed away on May 23, 2023. She was born on September 11, 1933, to Edward Scott and Laura Wheeler, in Moreland, Idaho. In her youth, the family moved to Pocatello from Moreland.
Doris married her knight in shining armor, Gareld Gilbert, on November 9, 1950. They were married for 68 years.
While attending Pocatello High School, she worked at Fred & Kelly’s (carhop), she was a Bookkeeper at Montgomery Wards for 25 years and at Bangs Office Products for 10 years. She was also a Teacher’s Aid for Pocatello School District #25 for 15 years.
Doris was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Doris enjoyed garage sales, sewing/quilting, playing cards working on jigsaw puzzles, and snowmobiling. She was involved in her neighborhood watch and was active in her Homeowners Association.
Her home was filled with sunflowers and hummingbirds. Doris was never a tea drinker but had a collection of about 200 teacups and saucers that she displayed in her home. She and her late husband, Gareld, loved fishing, hunting, and camping in their motorhome.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Debra (Tom) Merrel of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Kathy (Alan) Mickelsen of Pocatello, ID; daughter, Glenna (Ryan) Patrick of Bend, OR; sister, Rhea Swensen of Blackfoot, ID; brother, Harold Thompson of Pocatello, ID; brother, John Wheeler of Blackhawk, SD; 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gareld L. Gilbert.
Contributions may be made in her name to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund. The family would like to sincerely thank Miss Kelly Permann for the countless hours she has spent caring for and loving on our mother as well as Tyson Wheatley, her Hospice nurse, for his time and care, and always going above and beyond. They were both amazing in every way.
A private family graveside service was held on May 26, 2023, at Mountain View Cemetery, in Pocatello, ID.
