Doris Ann Weaver Brydon passed away at the age of 94 peacefully in her own home surrounded by her children on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at approximately 6 am in the morning.
She was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on September 15, 1930 to Florence May Jacky Weaver and Carl Crowe Weaver. Although she was an only child, there were many aunts and uncles and cousins and a large extended family. Many of the Jacky relatives still reside in the Twin Falls area. She graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1948 where she was president of the Pep Club and her first job was working as a car hop. After High School, she went to college in Colorado before attending then Idaho State College (ISC). This is where she met her future husband and forever partner, Bill Brydon in German Club while making strudel. In 1952 she graduated with a BS in Zoology from ISC. There, she was Women Students’ President, Senior Class Treasurer and a member of Alpha Chi Omega. Bill, then attending medical school at Washington University (WU) in St. Louis, Ill. provided her with an opportunity to attend the new Physical Therapy program at WU. In 1955 she received a BS from WU in Physical Therapy and worked at Barnes Hospital as a Physical Therapist. They were married in 1954 in Twin Falls, ID. In 1956 she and Bill moved to Seattle, where daughter Cathy and son Bill Jr. were born. After Seattle, they moved to Cheyenne where son Tim was born. Then in 1962, the young family moved back to Pocatello where they remained until her passing.
In Pocatello, Doris worked at the Pocatello Children’s Clinic as business manager until 1973. She was a Registered Physical Therapist from 1973 to 1985. From 1983 to 1988 she was with Century 21 and Gate City Better Homes and Gardens Realtors and in 1981 she was the Business and Financial manager at the Pocatello Allergy and Asthma Clinic. Doris was also very active in the community. She was involved with Bannock Boys Baseball, Pocatello Ski Association, YMCA Treasurer for 7 years, P.E.O., Soroptimists, Pocatello Board of Realtors, Pocatello Music Club, Southeastern Idaho Medical Auxiliary, Idaho State Symphony, and helped Bill with the ISU Foundation Board of Directors and was on the College of Arts and Letters Deans Advisory Board. She and Bill also helped originate the 50+ reunion, and she was the one that had Bill make the first phone call to start the WAMI program! She also received many awards, including the William J. Bartz Award, The Presidents Medallion, and the Minnie Howard Award. With Bill, she was very active in supporting ISU and Pocatello. They have long supported ISU with scholarships and donations, were major donors for the construction of the Stephens performing Arts Center as well as the ICCU Bengal Alumni Center. They contributed to the building of the Grizzly Bear habitat at the Pocatello Zoo and the Saber Tooth Tiger exhibit at the Idaho Museum of Natural History. Doris and Bill were also able to travel extensively around the USA, Canada, Europe, Mexico, parts of Central and South America and a Safari trip to South Africa! Her other interests included enjoying quality time with her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren, playing games, doing puzzles, classical music, attending plays and the symphony, the Farmers Market, gardening, flowers, reading, cooking, and of course she was a very enthusiastic Bridge player! And all throughout this time, Doris continued to be a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Doris was married to her beloved husband Dr. William “Bill” Brydon for 65 years, until Bill passed away on June 14, 2020.
She is survived by her three children, Catherine Ann Brydon, William Lloyd Brydon Jr., Timothy Carl Brydon, two grandchildren, Harley Timothy Brydon (Heather), William Patrick “Brydon” Murray (Jenny), and three great grandchildren, Kinzlee Ann, Adalynn Joann, and Wyatt Joseph (all Brydon’s).
Memorial services will be Saturday, December 7 at Wilks Colonial Chapel, 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello. A Gathering will begin at 10 am with service at 11am. A private family burial will follow the service at Mountain View Cemetery.
