Donna Jean Taylor

October 19, 1945 — May 23, 2024

Donna Jean Taylor, age 78, departed this earthly existence on May 23, 2024 in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, where she moved in 2020 to be close to her son and his family.

Donna was born on October 19, 1945, in San Diego, California, to Claud Frederick Deere and Effie Verna Newman, being the older of two daughters.

The Deere family moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico, when she was ten, where she graduated as valedictorian from Alamogordo High School in 1964. For the next four years, Donna attended Brigham Young University, graduating with a B.S. degree in mathematics. While at BYU, Donna performed on the ballroom dance team.

She married Bruce Thomas Taylor on May 10, 1968, in the Salt Lake City temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their union brought two children into their family.

Pharmacy was her chosen profession and following her schooling at Idaho State University College of Pharmacy in Pocatello, Donna worked as a full time pharmacist for 35 years at Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho.

Donna was passionate about her piano studies and continued to perform in many capacities. Among her accomplishments were the recordings she produced as well as the recitals performed in Goranson Hall at ISU. Her exceptional musical talent continued throughout her life.

A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Donna’s life was dedicated to Christ-centered service.

Donna’s greatest accomplishments were her two children and three grandchildren. Her many travels included visits to her children and grandchildren including trips planned for them to enjoy together. Their happiness and success were her priority in life.

She traveled to Europe with her husband, Bruce, and later to China with her sister, Peggy, and friends. A trip to New Zealand with Peggy included hiking the Routeburn Track.

Donna‘s kindnesses were felt by many. Reflecting her excellent cooking skills, she often prepared meals to take to families in need. A peacemaker, she was a gracious and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Survivors include her two children, Sharissa Taylor and Jeff Taylor (Lisa); three grandchildren, Trevor Spinosa, Sara Spinosa, and Claire Taylor; a sister, Peggy Spencer (Randy) of Pocatello, Idaho. Donna’s parents, Claud and Effie Deere, predeceased her.

A family celebration of life will be held in Alabama.
