Donald Sortor

June 10, 1953 — September 17, 2020

Donald Sortor, 67, of Atomic City, ID, passed away at his home on September 17, 2020. Donald D Sortor was born in Pocatello, ID to Beverly June Robinson, and Dale George Sortor. He grew up with his twin brother Ronald, and brothers, Rocky, Rodney, and sister, Renee. As a child, he loved spending his time riding horses, playing baseball, and running wild. As he got older, he started a family and began his life. Donald worked numerous jobs around Pocatello, until choosing to follow in the footsteps of his stepfather, William Leighton, and joined the Boilermakers Union (Local 182). This sparked his passion for welding and working. Donald worked as a boilermaker until 1994, when he was injured in a work accident, and this is when his life started. Donald Sortor had five children: Bryan, William, Rd, Riley, and Eden. As a family they loved camping, hunting, fishing, swimming, and going to the horse races. Donalds greatest accomplishment in life was being a father and grandfather. The last 26 years of his life was dedicated to his children and grandchildren, and they thought of him as a superhero. He was there for them through their ups and downs, and taught them to be grateful, happy, and to enjoy every moment life has to offer. Being a kind and dependable father was of the utmost importance to Donald and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family and his friends. Donald dedicated his life to helping others and to making a difference in the world. He volunteered all of his time to helping at the food pantry, tutoring young children, helping at church, as a member of the City Council, a Water Master, a father and grandfather. Donald had many grandchildren and he tried to be involved in all of their activities. He attended countless baseball, football, soccer games, and dance recitals. Donald ensured that those around him knew that they were loved, and he carried with him this calming presence that made people feel comfortable. In addition to children, Bryan Sortor, William Sortor, Rd Sortor, Riley Sortor and Eden Nelson, Donald is survived by his brothers, Ronald, Rodney, Rocky; and sister, Renee. He was preceded in passing by his mother, Beverly Leighton; stepfather, William Leighton; and father, Dale Sortor. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 25, 2020 at 2 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, ID. There will be visitation at the same location beginning at 1 pm. His family will be present to welcome loved ones. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5th Ave. Pocatello, ID.
